Returning to driving, work, sport, travel, intimacy, fasting, and pilgrimage after a kidney transplant — when each is safe and how to ease back into a full active life.
Key Points
• In the first six weeks, no lifting over five kilograms, no running or impact sport, and gentle daily walks instead.
• Driving usually returns at four to six weeks, once the seatbelt is comfortable and you can perform an emergency stop — never while on strong opioid painkillers.
• Desk work resumes at about six weeks; physical work at about twelve weeks; teachers and similar roles at about three months.
• Intimacy is safe from around six weeks after the operation — the transplanted kidney sits low in the abdomen and is well protected.
• The first-line contraception is the long-acting reversible methods: the hormonal coil placed inside the womb, or the small implant placed under the skin of the arm — both over ninety-nine percent effective and they do not interact with Prograf or Neoral. Condoms are a backup, not the first choice.
• Short travel from three months, long international flights from six months — carry double the supply of every medicine.
• Fasting in Ramadan is grouped into four risk tiers (very high, high, moderate, low). Decide with your transplant team a few weeks in advance.
• Hajj and Umrah are reserved for at least six months after the transplant, with stable kidney function and the right vaccinations in place.

• العلاقة الزوجية آمنة من حوالي ستة أسابيع بعد العملية - الكلية المزروعة موجودة في أسفل البطن وهي محمية جيدا.
• الخيار الأول لمنع الحمل هو الوسائل طويلة الأمد لمنع الحمل: اللولب الهرموني الذي يوضع داخل الرحم, أو الغُرسة الصغيرة تحت جلد الذراع - كلاهما أكثر من تسعة وتسعين بالمئة فعالية, ولا يتداخلان مع البروجراف أو النيورال. والواقي الذكري احتياط, وليس الخيار الأول.
• السفر القصير من ثلاثة أشهر, والرحلات الجوية الدولية الطويلة من ستة أشهر - واحملي ضعف الكمية من كل دواء.
• الصيام في رمضان يُقسَّم إلى أربع مجموعات للخطر (عالٍ جدا, عالٍ, متوسط, منخفض). قراركِ يُتخذ مع فريق الزراعة قبل رمضان بأسابيع.
• الحج والعمرة يُؤجَّلان إلى ستة أشهر على الأقل بعد الزراعة, مع استقرار وظائف الكلى واكتمال اللقاحات المطلوبة.
