Kidney Failure Risk Equation (KFRE) Calculator
Estimate the 2-year and 5-year probability of progression to kidney failure (dialysis or transplant) using the validated 4-variable Kidney Failure Risk Equation for patients with CKD stages G3 to G5.
When to use it
Use to prioritise nephrology referral, time dialysis-access creation, and counsel patients. A 5-year risk above roughly 3 to 5 percent is widely used as a referral threshold.
Formula
Inputs: age, sex, eGFR, and urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR). The 4-variable KFRE returns calibrated 2- and 5-year failure probabilities.
